Delta will start giving out free trees starting next week.

The city is launching Planting our roots – free tree project, an initiative to distribute a total of 500 trees to Delta residents at no cost — 250 in the spring and another 250 in the fall, on a first-come, first-served basis.

Supported by council in July 2023, the city says this project will help achieve its goal of reaching 40 per cent canopy cover.

The online reservation form for residents will open on Wednesday, March 20 at 11 a.m., offering a selection of 10 different tree varieties.

Residents can indicate their top three preferences and the city will do its best to match residents with their preferred tree.

Each household may order up to two trees, delivered directly to your home in April — just in time for planting season.

Share a photo of your planted tree using #PlantingOurRoots and tag @CityofDeltaBC on Instagram or @CityofDeltaBC on Facebook to enter a draw for a chance to win a Delta Prize Pack.
