If you are living with cancer and you would like to release muscle tension, increase your flexibility and balance your body/mind connection, then join a Delta Hospice restorative yoga group. Yoga experience is not necessary. The group meets at the Centre for Supportive Care, 4631 Clarence Taylor Crescent, Ladner, for six Thursdays beginning Sept. 13. Sign up for the Fraser Valley Regional Library’s 2018 Summer Reading Club. There’s a club for everyone: Read to Me (0 to preschool), Kids (kindergarten to Grade 6), Teens (grades 7 to 12) and Adults. Read for your chance to win prizes. Visit either the Ladner Pioneer Library or the Tsawwassen Library to join. 

 

The Knitting Sisters, who knit and crochet for charities, meet as a drop-in from 10 a.m. to noon on the first and third Saturdays of the month at McKee Seniors Recreation Centre in Ladner. If you have been bereaved recently and would like to be physically active and informally connect with others who have experienced a significant loss, then join a Delta Hospice adult walking group. Join others on gentle walks with the option to share your experience of grief and loss. The group meets at the Centre for Supportive Care, 4631 Clarence Taylor Crescent, Ladner, for six Wednesdays beginning Sept. 12. For more information or to pre-register, call 604-948-0660. Cyclists who would like to ride with others can meet at the Ladner Pioneer Library parking lot Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10 a.m. The ride is especially suited for reasonably fit, mature cyclists but everyone is welcome. Contact Bob at 604-943-1603 for more information.

 

Delta Hospice Society offers a Drop-In Relaxation Circle, led by a music therapist, for those living with cancer or serious illness, as well as their family members and friends, every Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the Centre for Supportive Care, 4631 Clarence Taylor Cres., Ladner. Program is complimentary.

 

The Canadian Lifeboat Institution is interviewing potential volunteers to serve as crew or support personnel for its Delta Lifeboat. Professional training is given in seamanship, navigation, medical, and search and rescue techniques. Contact John at 604-760-5218 for more information.

 

Love the game of golf and want to join a ladies group? Kings Links Ladies play every Tuesday morning and are welcoming new members. The 2018 season goes until mid-October. FUND RAISERS

 

The Links at Hampton Cove is hosting a community golf tournament to benefit Reach and children with special needs on Saturday, Aug. 11. Register now at www.hamptoncoveopen.ca and play by donation between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. This day of golf in Ladner includes chipping and putting contests plus a $10,000 hole-in-one challenge. There will be crafts and activities for the children in the afternoon.

 

Check out the Hospice Cottage Charity Shoppe, 1521-56th St., Tsawwassen, for toys. There is a great selection of new and gently used toys for everyday and summertime fun.

 

 

SPECIAL EVENTS

 

The Tsawwassen summer car boot sales take place at the Centennial Beach parking lot. The next sale takes place Saturday, Aug. 11, from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Cost for vendors is $10 on a first-come, first-served basis. Hosted by Boundary Bay Park Association. Delta Play Day is a free community event with lots of activities, both indoor and outdoor, for kids of all ages. Love learning about local history? Want to try your hand at playing a person who lived in the past? A historical reenactment of life in Delta during the First World War will take place at Kirkland House in Ladner on Sept. 28 and 29. Organizers are seeking volunteer re-enactors ages 14+ from Delta to play speaking and non-speaking roles. The project is part of BC Cultural Days and is professionally managed and directed. On Monday, Aug. 13, be part of a musical adventure celebrating nature, family, friends and more. Ginalina is a Juno-nominated children’s singer-songwriter who writes rollicking, roaring and ridiculously catchy songs for the whole family to sing together. Program will be held at the Ladner Pioneer Library from 11 to 11:45 a.m. and at the Tsawwassen Library from 2 to 2:45 p.m.

 

Do you love sitting around the campfire telling spooky stories, getting that tingly feeling at the back of your neck and eating s’mores? Take part in Fireside Frights on Tuesday, Aug. 21 from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Ladner Pioneer Library for an hour of good old fashioned ghost stories and fireside treats. Program is for ages eight to 12.

 

Delta MP Carla Qualtrough hosts an annual Community BBQ on Saturday, Sept. 8 at Annieville Lions Park, 9150-112th St., from noon to 3 p.m. All members of the community are invited for a free BBQ to celebrate the end of summer. Lunch will be served by the North Delta Lions Club. Back to school items will be collected for students in need.

 

The SDSS grad class of 1988 is holding a 30-year reunion on Sept. 15 at the Tsawwassen Tunnel Town Curling Club. Tickets at Eventbrite (search SDSS).
