The Sunday, May 5 edition of the Sunday @3 Concert Series at Ladner United Church will feature the Galiano Wind trio.

This group features two Ladner musicians Donella and Stephen Robb performing with Trio leader David Boddington in a program of classical music hits through the generations.

The Trio was founded by Boddington in 1986 with its first performances in Vancouver during Expo 86.

Stephen first joined the trio in the early 1990’s after finishing his master’s in music in Clarinet at UBC. It was during the same period Stephen began working for the Delta Community Music School and Delta Youth Orchestra.

The trio was reborn in 2022 after the COVID-19 pandemic shutdown with Boddington bringing the wind synth to the group as the lead player.

The repertoire of the group has been re-envisioned by Boddington to bring many familiar classical works to the wind trio format.

Sunday’s program will feature a mix of music beginning with French composers Jean Philippe Rameau. The French connection continues with works by Francis Poulenc, George Bizet, Claude Bowling, and Claude Debussy.

Masterworks from English composers George Butterworh and Ralph Vaughan Williams will give a perspective from across the English Channel.

The audience will visit the Americas with works by Ragtime composers that span several decades as well as a couple of pieces by George Gershwin.

The Trio will round out the program with two works by Canadian composers including a work written for the trio by North Vancouver’s Anita Sleeman and a work for wind trio by Canadian born composer and bassoonist Bill Douglas.

Tickets are $10 (cash) at the door.
