Letters: Encouraged by MP’s comments

Reliance on only one route is poor risk management with potentially bad outcomes

Editor:

I was very encouraged by MP Carla Qualtrough’s comment in the April 25 Optimist indicating an additional northbound access to the tunnel was a “top priority.”

This is the connection from River Road, which has been asked to be included in the Fraser Tunnel Project.

The current access out of Ladner is a highly congested Ladner Trunk Road.

This link has difficulty servicing existing development and any planned future growth will be much more problematic.

This critical infrastructure link is needed to service growth.

Let us also not forget the risks associated with a single access route out of Ladner.

In the event of a natural or manmade disaster, Ladner may need to be evacuated or accessed quickly by emergency services.

Reliance on only one route is poor risk management with potentially bad outcomes.
