It certainly wasn’t the start the Delta Islanders were hoping for.
Delta dropped a pair of home games this past weekend as it opened up the 2024 BC Junior A lacrosse season.
On Saturday night, the high-powered Coquitlam Adanacs paid a visit to the Ladner Leisure Centre (LLC).
Coquitlam opened an early 2-0 lead, but the Islanders responded with a power play goal from Connor Bouma to cut the lead to 2-1.
But the close contest was short-lived, as Coquitlam reeled off eight-straight goals to lead 10-1 before Turner Anderson found the net twice for the Islanders.
Scott Williams also scored for Delta in the third as Coquitlam won 13-4.
On Sunday afternoon, the Nanaimo Timbermen came to the LLC for game two of the season.
Nanaimo opened a 7-0 lead before Delta scored four goals in the third period to make the final score a respectable 8-4 in Nanaimo’s favour.
Hitting the scoresheet for the Islanders was Williams, Bouma and Scott Strother with a pair of goals.
Delta will look to rebound on Saturday as they head to The Q Centre to take on the Victoria Shamrocks.
The Islanders next home game is May 25 when they host the Burnaby Lakers at 7 p.m.
