Links at Hampton Cove pays tribute to Tom Bearss

A memorial bench and plaque has been placed on the ninth hole

Recently, The Links at Hampton Cove and their Men’s Club paid tribute to Tom Bearss by dedicating (through donations) a bench in memorial on the ninth tee box.

Bearss was a former Trade Commissioner for Canada, president of the Delta Naturalist Society, an avid golfer, hockey player and a pilar in the Delta community and across the globe.

He passed quickly from a horrible battle with Pancreatic Cancer on April 10, 2020.

This beautiful tribute on May 23, was orchestrated by Brenda Dobro, Neil Coward, Leo and Vicki Harvey, Bill Rafter, Ken Ringham, Greg Vaughan, and Chari.

The bench was put on the ninth tee and plaque attached by Anthony and Myk. It was a blessing for the Bearss family. Members of The Links at Hampton Cove, friends and the Bearss family met at the links, formed a procession in golf carts to see the beautiful bench and plaque on the ninth hole.

The birds were singing, flowers in full bloom, sun glistening on the water, as the attendees’ shared stories of Bearss’ love for nature among other stories.

Son, Scott Bearss toasted his dad around the bench.

The Bearss family and friends then lined up tees and balls to hit a ball in honour of Tom down the fairway. The procession then headed to the 19th hole for storytelling and a celebration for a man who many say, was “larger than life”.
