Delta police have been busy handing out fines to homeowners disobeying the public health order prohibiting parties.

According to Chief Neil Dubord, police have responded to homeowners hosting gatherings every couple of nights and last night as well.

A spokesperson for the police department said at approximately 11:20 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 3, a complainant contacted police regarding an ongoing house party in North Delta.

The complainant noted that the individual who was hosting the party had been holding gatherings of six-to-seven people on a weekly basis during the pandemic.

Upon arrival, the homeowner stated that there was no party, but police witnessed partygoers running out the backdoor.

Officers educated the homeowner on the public health orders, and given the totality of the circumstances, issued the homeowner a $2,300 violation ticket.

The other partygoers got a $230 fine under the COVID Related Measures Act.

The current health order prohibits people from gathering with others who aren't in their immediate household.

As far as those who live alone, they're only allowed to meet with one or two people from their "core bubble."
