Traffic has become ridiculous at times on North Delta’s feeder routes, says Coun. Lois Jackson.
The ire from Jackson at a recent Delta council meeting was palpable as she described a traffic jam on 112th Street that afternoon, saying the situation seems to be getting worse there as well as on 116th Street and other places.
The veteran councillor asked if there had been any traffic counts in North Delta lately and was told by engineering director Steven Lan that each community of Delta gets one every few years with North Delta having had one done last year.
Council last summer approved a $58,000 expenditure for a traffic count for North Delta, but Jackson noted she has yet to see those results.
Jackson asked for that report come back for discussion at council.
The previous summer, council approved spending $51,000 to collect traffic data in South Delta, Tilbury and Annacis Island.
Jackson told the Optimist following the meeting, “This should be a neighbourhood, not a freeway. Scott Road is a nightmare no matter what time of day you’re there, so all that traffic is spilling onto these other roads with people trying to get around that.”
Jackson also brought up a recent letter by a resident who requested a “proper” stop light be installed at 86th Avenue and 116th Street, warning of the potential for accidents at that busy intersection. Staff will also come back with a report on that issue.
