The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in South Delta and other files of interest. The following are some of the calls Delta police responded to in the previous week:
Tsawwassen and TFN
*June 10, 9:09 p.m., location withheld: Police received a 911 call from a residence and on callback, a female could be heard yelling. A second 911 call was received with a voice heard moaning. Police arrived and spoke to a female, who advised that her children were upset about cleaning up their toys and called 911. Police spoke to the children, who understood why calling the police in that situation was not appropriate, and that they needed to clean up when their mother tells them to. The mother was apologetic to police about the call.
*June 11, 7:22 p.m. 4300 Block Salish Sea Drive: Complainant contacted police about three cars doing donuts and burnouts in a parking lot at this location. Police attended, but area patrols were negative. Complainant indicated that this was a common occurrence on Friday nights, and requested police attendance in the area in the future.
*June 11, 7:32 p.m., 300 block 54th Street: Complainant phoned police to report a suspicious person who had knocked on her door asking if she wished to purchase firewood. The suspicious person asked the complainant if she was home alone, and if her kids were in the house with her. The suspicious person left, but the complainant saw them walking on her street 45 minutes later. Police conducted patrols in the area, but did not locate anyone matching the description. The complainant was asked to contact police if she saw the same person again.
*June 13, 7:06 p.m., 54th Street: Complainant called police to report two teenagers riding dirt bikes in front of their residence as he was upset due to the noise. Police attended and spoke with the two teenagers. Both said that they were just riding in their front lawn and were working on the bike. Police did not observe the teenagers riding the bike, but issued a warning regarding the noise. Police also advised both teenagers that they could not ride their bikes on the road. Both teenagers confirmed that they understood and put their dirt bike away. Police updated the complainant who appreciated the police effort.
Ladner
*June 9, 8:40 a.m., 7000 block Highway 17: Police were conducting on-foot radar enforcement when they observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed. Radar locked the speed at 135km/h in an 80km/h highway zone. The vehicle was subsequently stopped and the driver was served an excessive speeding violation ticket, a warning violation ticket for not having an “N” sign, and a vehicle impoundment.
*June 9, 4:01 p.m., Boundary Bay Dyke Trail: Complainant reported observing three males clay target practicing in the mud flats. Police attended and spoke to the males, who were shooting lead shots at clay target rounds. The males stated they weren’t aware that clay target shooting was prohibited in that area. Police explained the area was considered a conservation area and that clay shooting was only allowed at a designated open range. The males understood and agreed to leave.
*June 11, 7:28 p.m., 6000 block Admiral Blvd: The manager at a nearby golf course phoned police to report that her employee was dealing with four intoxicated golfers who had played 27 holes of golf, but paid for 18. Police attended and identified the golfers, all of whom were intoxicated. The parties agreed to pay for the extra holes they had golfed, and insisted they were not planning on driving, despite several of their vehicles being in the parking lot. Police observed the parties get picked up in a vehicle by a sober driver. The bill was paid and drunk driving was averted.
*June 12, 11:28 p.m., 4800 block 53rd Street: Complainant reported hearing a fight between a male and a female coming from a residence. Police attended and conducted a door-knock at the residence and were greeted by a 13-year-old boy. Police conducted a walkthrough at the residence and was only able to locate two other teenagers. The boy explained that they had been yelling at the screen as they played video games and admitted to playing loud music and that no one was arguing. Police updated the complainant and contacted the boy’s father who stated that it should be only his son and his friends there and that he was on his way home.
