The B.C. Centre for Disease Control is now releasing more detailed data on the spread of COVID-19.
As of last Thursday, data is reported by local health area on a weekly basis, numbers that were previously only reported monthly.
The first map showing active cases, for the week of Nov. 29 to Dec. 5, indicates Delta has 208 confirmed cases, while neighbouring Richmond has 134 and Surrey has 1,588.
The data, however, still doesn’t break down Delta’s numbers by the communities of Ladner, Tsawwassen and North Delta.
That data is reported at the specific community-level for the City of Vancouver.
According to the latest monthly map which shows cumulative cases, from January to November, Delta had 1,331 cases, exceeding Richmond which had 944 cases but nowhere near Surrey which had 10,479 cases.
In a recent letter to Premier John Horgan, Delta Mayor George Harvie reiterated Delta and other Fraser Health communities’ request for the province to release more community-specific data on coronavirus infections.
“As municipalities, we are committed and uniquely positioned to supporting senior governments, residents, businesses and other stakeholders during the challenges of the pandemic. To perform these functions effectively, we need more granular and frequent data,” Harvie wrote.
He also noted more detailed local COVID-19 data would help guide city decision making and resource allocation while working with businesses and community organizations as they try to stay open, economically viable, but safe.
