The Delta Islanders are off the B.C. Junior “B” Tier One Lacrosse League’s Lower Mainland Championship Series.
The Islanders completed a two-game sweep of the Port Coquitlam Saints with a 9-6 road victory on Monday night, after an 11-9 win 24 hours earlier in Ladner.
Delta took control of the series clincher thanks to a strong second period that erased a 2-1 deficit and resulted in a 5-3 lead, heading into the final 20 minutes.
Silas Richmond had a huge night with seven points, including five goals. Matthew Burt had a pair of goals and four points. Joey DeBaughn chipped in with a goal and two helpers, while Owen Neilson rounded out the scoring. Captain Keegan Kozack had three assists.
Trace Recsky was superb in goal with 45 saves.
Delta set the series tone with a big opening 20 minutes in game one, scoring nine times including a buzzer-beater from Kozack.
Peyton Hooper, Richmond and DeBaughn each had hat tricks. Lucas Mullen, Davis Granum and Burt rounded out the scoring. Recsky made 37 stops.
The Islanders, coached by Nathan Wilson. now await the winner of the other Mainland series between Coquitlam and Langley with the Adanacs taking a 1-0 lead onto their home floor tonight.
Delta and Coquitlam each completed an eight-game exhibition schedule with 6-2 records. The league began play in July when COVID-19 health restrictions were eased. Nanaimo and Victoria had a one game playoff for the Vancouver Island Championship.
