Re: Will Delta be home to new cruise ship terminal? (Optimist, online article, Oct. 23)

So Robin Silvester, CEO Port of Vancouver, now wants to appropriate more Fraser River estuary wildlife habitat for a second cruise ship terminal?

The lower Fraser and its estuary are at a tipping point. Over 70 percent of its natural habitat has already been lost to port and industrial development. There must be no further industrialization allowed in one of the most important wildlife habitats in Canada.

There are multiple port/industrial projects already implemented or being planned, including Deltaport and Westshore terminals, the Airport Jet Fuel terminal, Seaspan barge terminal a new Massey Tunnel and potentially, unless they are stopped, Fortis LNG, Roberts Bank Container Terminal 2, Deltaport Berth 4 and a second cruise ship terminal.

Enough is enough. The wetlands and wildlife habitat cannot withstand these projects. Millions of shorebirds, waterfowl, salmon, crabs and other wildlife rely on this habitat for their very existence.

Mr. Silvester needs to be told: no he is not going to get approval for Roberts Bank Terminal 2 and no he is not going to get a second cruise ship terminal.
