B.C. man charged with murder makes first court appearance

A man charged with second-degree murder made his first court appearance Nov. 5 in connection with an Aug. 9 death in Vancouver.

The charge against Alfred Henry John Charlie, 43, was sworn just before court began.

He is charged in the death of Jordan Povse.

The department did release information on the day of Povse’s death saying a 23-year-old man died in hospital after being attacked near Main and East Hastings streets in the early morning.

Police said officers were called to an incident of a man in distress.

“Officers provided emergency first aid until paramedics arrived and took the victim to hospital where he later died from his injuries,” police said.

Vancouver Police Department spokesperson Const. Tania Visintin confirmed that release was about Povse.
