The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) is investigating a homicide at the border of Gastown and the Downtown Eastside.
Police were called to the intersection of East Cordova and Carrall streets around 3:30 a.m. after reports of a man being shot.
"Despite attempts by first responders to save his life, the victim died before he could be taken to hospital," states the VPD in a press release.
The VPD has not identified the victim.
"It is unknown right now what circumstances led up to the shooting," Const. Tania Visintin tells V.I.A. in an email
Police currently have the area blocked off as part of the investigation. Additional officer are in the area collecting evidence.
"No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing," reads the press release. "It is unknown at this time if the victim and suspect knew each other."
Police are still searching for a suspect, Visintin notes, and no description is available.
"Anyone with information is asked to call the Vancouver Police Homicide Unit at 604-717-2500," states the VPD.
