A B.C. man and woman are on trial in Vancouver Provincial Court on charges of violating sports fishing regulations and misleading a fisheries officer.
Colette Marie Diane Peel and Gregory William Peel were due in court Dec. 2 for the start of the case against them under B.C. Sport Fishing Regulations, part of the Fisheries Act.
It’s alleged that the two fished for salmon near Vancouver on Aug. 12, 2023, during a period closed for salmon.
It’s further alleged that the two unlawfully fished for salmon using a barbed hook during a closed period.
The Peels are further charged with making a false or misleading statement to a fisheries officer, also an offence under the Fisheries Act.
Finally, the two are charged with possession of fish caught in contravention of the act or regulations.
Fisheries officers with boxes of material were waiting outside the courtroom as the case began.
The charges were sworn on April 19, 2024.
