A grieving father says his daughter was killed during a home invasion in Surrey.
Aron Dunn says his daughter Tori Dunn was inside a Port Kells house on Sunday when a person broke in, resulting in her death.
"We, her family cannot begin to understand how someone as kind as Tori could be victim to such senseless violence,” writes Dunn in a social media post.
Surrey RCMP responded to the residence at 10 p.m. and found the 30-year-old suffering life-threatening injuries. She died in the hospital.
Officers and the Lower Mainland Integrated Police Dog Service arrested a man in the area.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) is investigating her death and says the suspect remains in custody for an unrelated charge.
Dunn says his daughter was "loved by all that she met."
"She devoted her time and love to her friends and family, someone who lit up the room with her smile and laugh. She is loved more than words,” he says.
A vigil is being held for Tori on June 22 at 7 p.m. at Surrey Bend Regional Park.
Her father encourages all the people whose lives were touched by his daughter to come and share a memory of her in a balloon release.
Staff Sgt. David Lee says the homicide investigation is ongoing and police are canvasing the area and looking for video surveillance.
“Our thoughts are with Tori’s family and the community,” says Lee. “We are committed to advancing this investigation to determine all the circumstances surrounding this senseless act.”
