DriveBC says Highway 1 eastbound lanes through Coquitlam have reopened after an earlier collision between a dump truck and a van.

"Major congestion" is expected as scattered debris across the Port Mann Bridge through lanes resulted a near five-hour closure.

Motorists heading to the Port Mann Bridge through Coquitlam should be prepared for a slow commute, or find an alternate route.

The eastbound through lanes at the west end of the bridge were closed earlier this afternoon after a collision between a dump truck and van scattered debris across the highway.

According to a news release from BC Highway Patrol (BCHP), when the driver of the dump truck swerved to avoid a collision, the trailer he was pulling flipped onto a van.

Nobody was injured, but the ensuing chaos, investigation and clean-up has lingered through the afternoon.

BCHP said as of 4:18 p.m. the eastbound HOV and through lanes at the west of the Port Mann remain closed while the right lane has been reopened.

The lanes to Surrey are unaffected.

BCHP said the lane closures are expected to last into the early evening to allow for further clean up and removal of the dump truck.
