A retiree who got injured after slipping and falling on a parking lot crosswalk is suing the City of Richmond.
Jin Vincent Tung is blaming the city's negligence while operating the Minoru Centre for Active Living for his injuries, according to a civil lawsuit filed on Jan. 23 at the B.C. Supreme Court in Vancouver.
In the lawsuit, the retired Richmond resident claims he slipped on "a slippery substance" and fell on a crosswalk in the parking lot while he was leaving the community centre on Jan. 9, 2022.
Tung claims he suffered various injuries including injuries to his lower back, right leg, right ankle, right shin and groin, as well as a fracture to his right hip.
The city, which owns and operates the Minoru Centre for Active Living, is accused of being negligent in exposing Tung to a risk of injury, failing to monitor staff responsible for maintaining the "floors" and failing to display signs and warnings that the "floors" are slippery, among other things.
Tung is claiming a yet-to-be-quantified amount of damages for the pain, suffering and loss of amenities of life, loss of earning capacity, loss or impairment of future ability to perform household tasks and costs of future care.
He is also claiming special damages including medical expenses, cost of transportation to treatments and lost wages and expenses incurred by third parties on his behalf.
None of the allegations have been proven in court.
