The deaths of two people found inside a burned vehicle in Summerland this weekend were the result of foul play and connected to a stolen car in the Lower Mainland, according to new information released by police.
On Saturday, Aug. 6, a vehicle was found on Garnet Valley Road, containing two bodies.
RCMP said Tuesday that investigators now believe the two people were homicide victims, and a stolen vehicle has been determined to be associated.
On Sunday, officers from the Abbotsford Police Department located a stolen vehicle, which had been flagged as being connected to the Summerland deaths.
Abbotsford police officers made attempts to stop the vehicle, and while attempting to escape, the stolen vehicle lost control and crashed on Maclure Road.
The crash killed the male driver and female passenger.
The Independent Investigations Office of BC (IIO BC) is now investigating.
RCMP continue to investigate the homicide of the victims found in Summerland, including identifying the bodies and determining the extent of the stolen vehicle in Abbotsford's involvement.
Police said no further details will be released at this time.
Anyone with dashcam recordings, or observations of suspicious activity, in the Garnet Valley Road area from early morning Saturday is asked to contact the Southeast District Major Crime Unit at 1-877-987-8477.
