Angela Husvik celebrated at Fashion Fest 2024

A memorial bench with a plaque was unveiled in Ladner Village

It’s a beautiful tribute for a beautiful and beloved member of the South Delta community.

Hundreds gathered on Saturday night (Aug. 10) at the Bridge Street pop-up park to celebrate local business owner Angela Husvik’s memory through a night of fashion, dancing, and fun.

Fashion Fest, which was co-founded by Husvik along with Camille Turner from Camille’s Boutique, began with a moving tribute for the longtime friend of Ladner Village, who passed away earlier this year after a long battle with cancer.

“Angela’s Boutique is a landmark in Delta, and Angela Husvik is legendary,” said event emcee Meenu Bakshi. “She’s a big part of the heartbeat of Ladner Village, and she will always be remembered here in our hearts.”

Coun. Dylan Kruger was on hand to thank the community for contributing towards a fund to install a plaque in Angela’s honour.

“I grew up going to Angela’s Boutique. A whole generation grew up going to Angela’s,” said Kruger. “We put the GoFundMe page up. We thought maybe if we worked really hard, we could raise $3,000 in two weeks. We did it in five hours. I want to say thank you to every person in our community who cared, who shared the page and who donated. It’s why I love Ladner. What an awesome tribute to Angela.”

Speaking on behalf of Angela’s family was her cousin Cori Macpherson.

“We would like to thank all of those involved for commemorating Angela this evening. Because of so many of you, we can honour her every day here at Angela’s corner, where a plaque has been placed on her favourite bench in her memory. Thank you to Coun. Dylan Kruger for making this happen,” said Macpherson.

Many of Angela’s family members were on hand to participate in the event, wearing matching “Angela’s Boutique” T-shirts.

“We want to thank the community, family and friends for all contributing and helping to make this happen,” said Macpherson. “We really loved that it was the community contributions that helped this come together. The love was felt.”

After the tributes, the fashion show commenced, with dozens of participants of all ages showing off the latest styles from Camille’s Boutique. The event culminated with a family-friendly dance party, where dozens of prizes were given out on behalf of the local business community.

Fashion Fest, now in its fourth year, took place on the corner of Delta and Bridge Street, an intersection that will now always be known as Angela’s Corner.
