The City of Delta and the North Delta Lions Club have partnered together for this year’s Canada Day celebration in North Delta.

Traditionally, the Lions Club has hosted a Family Day event in June, but this year, the Club and City decided to forgo with the Family Day and create an enhanced Canada Day experience.

The day begins at 3 p.m. with a parade then the opening ceremonies and cake cutting at Chalmers Park, alongside a festival featuring live entertainment, carnival games provided by Delta Church, inflatables, and a cultural corner.

The North Delta Lions Club will host their iconic barbecue and the famous Lion Slide Inflatable, with the Punjabi Maihi Church and Delta Church providing more delicious food options. Another new addition to this year’s event includes the beverage garden, sponsored by the Delta Firefighters Charitable Society. To cap off the celebrations, fireworks will immediately follow a performance by Soulstream.

“The North Delta Lions Club is an outstanding service club dedicated to investing in North Delta and its residents,” said Mayor George Harvie in a news release. “The City of Delta is proud to partner with the Club to host an exceptional Canada Day celebration, combining the two well-loved community festivals to provide an enhanced and expanded event for our community.”

The North Delta Lions Club has coordinated North Delta Family Day for more than 50 years, with proceeds going directly to supporting the community. The Lions Club has also provided support for major community projects, including the Annieville Lions Park Water Park, Annieville Lions Park Picnic Shelter, the accessible swing at Annieville Elementary School, and the Delta Hospital Foundation, among many others.

“The North Delta Lions Club has had the honour of hosting the North Delta Family Day Parade and Festival for decades,” said Nicholle Dhaliwal, President, North Delta Lions Club. “We will continue our legacy in North Delta and our renowned Community barbecue to give this Canada Day the celebration it deserves. We appreciate the many years of support from the community in participating in the Family Day Celebration and Parade with the City of Delta.”
