Have you ever wanted to write a story and then learn how to bind it all together into a book?
If so, then the Ladner Pioneer Library has everything you need to get started on creating your own novel.
Create Your Own Book begins Saturday, Sept. 7 as the library gets prepared to host Culture Days, Sept. 27 to 29.
“This was an idea that came about when planning Culture Days, which highlights culture in various communities across the country,” said Jill Klaponski, Ladner Pioneer Library’s community librarian.
“Over the summer we have had a couple of kids in who had been writing stories and making books and I thought wouldn’t it be fun if we could display some of these creative pursuits of our community members, so then we thought it would be fun to provide opportunities for creative writing and then demonstrate a couple of simple ways that someone could put a book together.”
On Saturdays, Sept. 7, 14 and 21, from 2 to 3 p.m., there will be time for participants to get inspired, help get started and time to complete their creation. Then on Wednesday, Sept. 25 from 3:30 to 4:30, participants will learn how to bind their masterpiece into a book. Participants can also drop off their book at the library so it will be part of their Culture Days display.
Klaponski said the free program is open to all ages.
“Library staff will be on hand each Saturday to offer support and guidance and I’ll offer up the book binding tips,” she said. “We’ll try and see what the interest is like and if it does get the interest we are looking for we will look at doing a larger program again next year.”
