Every year, all schools in the Delta School District host assemblies to commemorate Remembrance Day.
For the last couple of years, students at Port Guichon Elementary in Ladner have taken a unique approach to their Remembrance Day commemoration. Students have prepared various stations with different themes such as The Poppy, Dove, Paper Cranes and Fallen Soldiers in the school gym.
On Friday, Nov. 8, the Grade 6/7 students will host a 20-minute presentation where they take each class at the school separately through the gym to learn more about Remembrance Day at each station. Parents and caregivers will also be invited to join their children’s class for the walk through.
“On Remembrance Day, it is so important that we acknowledge the courage and sacrifice of those who served their country and the importance of cherishing the peace they fought so hard to achieve,” said Grade 6/7 Teacher Laurie Kay. “Empowering students to lead this important learning has been extremely successful. We have seen the Grade 6/7 students grow in confidence and find their voice as they create presentations and share their learning with their peers and families.”
