After a pancake breakfast on the beach on Aug. 18, the Rotary Club of Tsawwassen, Ocean Ambassadors Canada and the South Delta Secondary Interact Club picked up more than 1,000 pieces of trash on the beach at Centennial Beach.
More than 30 people scoured the beach and entered the amount of all the trash picked up into the PickUp3 Trash-o-Meter.
“In mid-June we set a goal to pick up 30,000 pieces of trash off the local beaches in our first year but we have exceeded that goal in just over two months,” said Rick Lewall, lead Rotarian for the shoreline stewardship program. “Over 31,000 pieces of trash have been recorded on the PickUp3 website. The PickUP3 program has expended to local schools and we encourage everyone to join our youth by picking up and recycling and disposing of three pieces of trash each time you visit our shorelines. Let’s work together to keep our beaches clean!”
PickUp3 was launched first in Delta and is sponsored by Ocean Ambassadors Canada, City of Delta, Global Container Terminals and the Rotary Club of Tsawwassen.
