Calling all outdoor enthusiast wannabees! Do you want to try camping but you’re not sure how to prepare?

Take the guesswork out and attend Camping 101 at the Ladner Pioneer Library on Thursday, July 4, from 1 to 2 p.m. The entire family is welcome to discover how easy and enjoyable camping can be.

A team from Parks Canada Learn-to-Camp will guide you on packing necessities so you will feel prepared and able to enjoy your first of many camping trips.

An amazing part of spending time in nature is seeing wildlife in their natural habitat. Stay longer to become Animal Aware. From 2:30 to 3:30 p.m., the team will provide tips on how to safely view animals while keeping a respectful distance.

Registration is required for both these programs.

Get up close and personal with live birds of prey, reptiles and parrots.

The first Summer Reading Club performance - OWL Orphaned Wildlife - will introduce you to the vast world of raptors on Friday, July 5, from 11 a.m. to noon at the George Mackie Library, and on Wednesday, July 10, from 11 a.m. to noon at the Ladner Pioneer Library and 2 to 3 p.m. at the Tsawwassen Library.

Registration is required at George Mackie Library and Ladner Pioneer Library only.

On Friday, July 12, from 2 to 3 p.m., there will be Lizards in the Library.

West Coast Exotics BC will be coming to the George Mackie Library with some scaly critters to learn about…and if you’re brave enough even pet or hold.

Bring your curiosity to the George Mackie Library on Wednesday, July 24, from 11 a.m. to noon and explore the world of parrots. A presenter from Greyhaven Exotic Bird Sanctuary will bring Sherlock, a Blue and Gold Macaw and Huey, a Quaker Parrot, and answer all your questions.

What is nature up to after dark? Find out on Friday, July 19, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the George Mackie Library. Join a Park Interpreter from Metro Vancouver Regional Parks for Mysterious Creatures of the Night. See real specimens and enjoy games/activities. While all ages are welcome, this program is recommended for ages four to nine.

Sasquatch, aka Bigfoot, means Wild Men from the Salish word Sasq’ets. Kids are invited to make their own Sasquatch Feet on Monday, Aug. 12, from 2 to 3 p.m. at the George Mackie Library. After you finish creating them, step in front of a green screen and get your picture taken! All supplies are provided. Registration is required, and children under 10 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.
