When you read your Bible, may you hear the risen Lord speaking to you.

[Luke 24 (1-35) 36b-48]

One prayer for Easter says, O God, whose blessed Son made himself known to his disciples in the breaking of the bread: open the eyes of our faith, that we may behold him in all his redeeming work…Open the eyes of our faith, that we may behold him.

The implication of that is ‘Eyes of Faith’ can be shattered, maybe by some traumatic event. That was the case with the disciples.

The events of Holy Week shattered their faith, that is if they had any faith at all, because throughout his ministry, Jesus described them as “You of little faith.”

So, we can say the events of Holy Week shattered that “Childish faith.” Even the little they had was destroyed.

Luke gives a beautiful story of Easter when Jesus appeared several times before his disciples after his resurrection. He strengthened their weak faith. Friends, God’s plan is not determined, and cannot be deterred by human machinations.

What God has planned will come to pass. As we read these Easter narratives, let me say, in those moments: when your faith is shattered, remember what the Scriptures say. When you read your Bible, may you hear the risen Lord speaking to you.

When you walk on your sorrowful journey, may the risen Lord be the stranger who joins you, listens to you, and converses with you.
