Being a parent is one of the greatest honours and privileges we get here on earth.
With this honour, I know personally, comes a wide range of emotions such as uncertainty, fear, anger, love, joy... Even if you have read all the books and manuals on how to parent, you probably are still left with many unanswered questions.
This is normal however, we have found as parents of three kids, that the instructions and guidelines we find in the Bible are above the rest; life-giving, clear, and rewarding.
The Bible is our greatest resource for raising our children well. The Bible reminds us that God loves our children even more than we do and that His plans for them are bigger than we could ever hope or imagine. No matter what parenting challenges you are facing right now, no matter what season you are, you can know that when you choose to do things His way in raising them, He will carry you!
“Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6
“Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.” Ephesians 6:4
So where do we begin? It begins with prayer, and not just when you’re in a difficult situation or just before you eat a meal. No, it is a constant dialogue with God your Father. Simple prayers like “Lord, I’m overwhelmed… Help me, please. The house is a mess, and the kids are crying. I need your help.” Or, “Thank you, Jesus, for my children and for the amazing plans you have for them. Thank you that you are protecting and guiding them and that I know your love surrounds them.”
Prayer is powerful and you need it when it comes to raising your children. It will bring peace to your heart and also opens up a way for God to bring about His amazing plans.
God has a plan. He always does! God’s plans for them are bigger than you could ever hope or imagine, and in the end, your child belongs to the Lord.
