My friend used to frequently travel outside of our province in the summer, and then she asked herself, “Why would I leave B.C. when it is the most amazing time of the year here?” Since then, she started travelling in other seasons, and she is thoroughly enjoying the beautiful outdoors of British Columbia in the glorious summer months.
Many of us in our city look forward to summer each year.
Given our reputation as “Raincouver,” we really do appreciate summer and want to take full advantage of the beautiful season while it’s here.
The bible claims that we can have a similar longing for things to be made right, despite the brokenness we experience in the world today.
Hebrews 10:23 says, “Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.”
The author encourages us to put our hope in Jesus because he is faithful to fulfill what he has promised, so the hope we have is not futile but an amazing gift from God.
In subsequent verses, the bible continues to say, “And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.”
Having the hope of Jesus spurs us on to love and good works, which our world could use more of today. As we long for summer, we can long for Jesus and place our hope in him; knowing that his promises will come to be a reality just as we can trust that summer is coming even though we’ve been living up to our raincouver reputation in the last few weeks.
