“Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own” (Matthew 6:34 NIV).
I’m a pretty good worrier, especially since my burnout a few years ago.
I have a tendency of either fixating on past failures or worrying about the future.
Jesus asked his disciples, “Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” (Matthew 6:27 NIV).
The answer, of course, is no. As a matter of fact, anxiety not only decreases our ability to enjoy life now, but it can also cause health problems which can shorten our life. Another thing to worry about.
When Jesus told his disciples not to worry, he didn’t say it shaking his finger at them in a condescending, condemning manner. He said it as an encouragement. Know that your Heavenly Father cares for you. He loves you. He knows what you are going through. He is good. He is all-powerful.
The Apostle Paul said this: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:6-7 NIV).
When I worry, it’s because I fixate on the wrong things. I am practicing fixating on the goodness of my Heavenly Father who loves me and cares for me and meets all my needs. That makes all the difference.
