When it comes to Japanese food, there are so many delicious dishes to choose from, making it one of my all-time favourite meals to enjoy when I go out to eat.
But although some may think that sushi is sushi and will be the same everywhere, the reality is that dishes and price may vary from restaurant to restaurant.
I decided to test for myself, so I ordered a classic family favourite, a Dynamite Roll from three Ladner sushi restaurants.
A simple roll can’t vary that much can it? To my surprise, when I opened the boxes of each order, none of them looked at all identical. How exciting! Let the tasting begin!
Let’s start with the most expensive, coming in at $8.45 from Maguro Sushi.
Right away the first impression left my mouth watering. The texture was so fresh and the roll itself looked so saucy and exploded with colour. There were pops of the green cucumber contrasting so beautifully against the orange of the yam. The large pieces of prawn melt in your mouth, cooked and yet not soggy and cuddled up against some fresh avocado. I was impressed!
Next, we have the roll that I found was more budget friendly from Go-Go Sushi, coming in at $6. It was the classic smaller version of a roll, simple and not too crazy. This roll consisted of a nice amount of cucumber and prawn. I found the size was great for smaller mouths and would be perfect for those who may not be as adventurous eaters in the sushi world quite yet.
Then finally, we have Sapporo Kitchen with their roll coming in at $8.
Opening this order, I was instantly hit with an overflowing amount of crab falling out the sides of the seaweed. Fresh slices of avocado and prawn were imbedded into the crab. The quantity as well as quality was very nice and very fresh.
I’m happy to say all in all, you can not go wrong with a classic dynamite roll around Ladner.
As for a favourite, I am a more is more girl and can’t deny a tasty sauce, therefore my preference was Maguro’s dynamite roll. This one hit all the spots for me and blew my mind!
