The sun is shining, and the birds are chirping. What a beautiful summer here on the West Coast of B.C. And when it comes to dinner time, I don’t think there is any meal that screams Canadian summer more than a big juicy burger with bacon on it eh!

I decided to check out some of the local pubs around South Delta and try their tastiest bacon burgers. I am pleased to say I was not left disappointed.

I started with our classic coastal restaurant here in Ladner, Sharkey’s. I decided to try their Honey Chipotle Bacon Burger.

This was a classic style burger on a lightly toasted bun, topped with lettuce, pickles, tomato, a fire grilled patty with bacon and a Honey Chipotle Aioli. In every bite you could taste a nice, almost hidden hint of pickles which I really enjoyed. I also really loved how the sweetness of the sauce complemented the smoked flavor of the burger and bacon, really giving you that sweet and savory satisfaction.

Next I hit up a favourite place to go for a cold drink and a warm meal, good ol Speeds pub. Here I chose the Speeds Smashed.

This burger had two thinner patties filled with smoked aioli, smoked cheddar, caramelized onions, lettuce, pickles and don’t forget the bacon! You could really catch the texture and taste of the caramelized onions mixed with the smoky flavors of the cheese and bacon, leaving you with a very juicy, richer, yet tasty experience.

And finally you have our neighborhood Pub the Landing Bar and Grill.

Here I decided to test out the Monster Burger.

This one was filled with all the goods. It had lettuce, tomato, cheese, red onion, mushrooms and smoky bacon with a garlic aioli. I enjoyed all the different tastes this combo had to offer, starting with the freshness of all the veggies, paired with those smoky bites from the bacon. A match made in burger heaven.

All in all, they were each slightly different yet so delicious in their own way. I must say I surprised myself by really enjoying the Speeds Smash burger. Usually, I love all things filled with veggies, but the flavors, richness and textures of this burger blended so nicely making it hard to resist!

Editor’s note: Sheri’s food tour will continue online once or twice a month and in the print edition of the Optimist as she highlights all the great eateries and foods here in South Delta.
