Art on the easel goes virtual

For almost 50 years, the South Delta Artists’ Guild has become a home for art lovers with a broad range of abilities who are there to learn, grow, share and exhibit
Artfully Anonymous
Judy Burnell of West Vancouver bought a painting at last year's Artfully Anonymous sale. Only later did she find out it was painted by her sister, SDAG artist, Nancy Dean.

Artfully Anonymous is the third annual fundraiser in support of our South Delta Artists Guild.

Local artists paint a 10 by 10 painting for only $100 (taxes included) with no signature attached. This on-line event is opening directly from the Guild website at www.southdeltaartistsguild.com on Saturday, Oct. 16 at 10 a.m. and remains live until Oct. 24 until just before midnight. When you are notified of your purchase, you will find out the name of the artist, and details of how to pick up your painting and the name of the artist.

Gallery 1710 is the only free-standing art gallery in South Delta. Exhibitions feature some of the Lower Mainland’s most talented and accomplished artists. Art sales and workshops contribute to the local tourism industry and attract visitors to the gallery from many parts of the world.

Operating as a not-for-profit society, the gallery and Artists Guild rely on membership fees, ($10/month), events and exhibitions. Partnerships with other community groups such as schools, the Delta Photo Club, the OWL Orphaned Wildlife Rehabilitation Society and the Delta Hospital Community Health Foundation, have meant that art lovers reach out to others with an interest in visual creations as well as helping community groups with funding.

For most people, art is a not a matter of having an expensive known artist’s work, but is a reminder of a personal connection to our past. Art we enjoy could evoke a memory, or a scene which brings a smile, but it always enriches our world in an emotional way. Sometimes it celebrates, records, invites, provokes or communicates the beauty as well as the struggles of our world and our personal journey.

For almost 50 years, the South Delta Artists’ Guild has become a home for art lovers with a broad range of abilities who are there to learn, grow, share and exhibit.

New artists develop their talents and skills through art education workshops and demonstrations. The studio provides social interaction for shared interests and space when home has none. New comers will find a welcome and a place to work from Monday’s life drawing with live models to drop-in sessions throughout the week, where fellow artists give encouragement and advice.
