'Grove chef to compete at Fraser Valley Food Show

A local chef will be making an appearance at the Fraser Valley Food Show next weekend. Florin Mezo of the Beach Grove Golf Club is set to compete in the annual Master Chef Competition at the show, which runs Sept. 14 to 16.

As well, Delta-based Serengeti Tea Canada will be among the more than 100 exhibitors at the fifth annual show at the Tradex Trade and Exhibition Centre in Abbotsford.

Spice Goddess Bal Arneson will headline the Food Network Celebrity Stage and local food and cooking enthusiast Reiko Mackenzie of Real Housewives of Vancouver fame will team up with organizations to celebrate local and sustainable food as we head into the harvest and Thanksgiving season.

GCT Global Container Terminals Inc., which operates four container terminals through three principal businesses in North America, including TSI Terminal Systems Inc. in Delta, this week announced the appointment of Stephen Edwards as president and chief executive officer.

"Stephen is an experienced international leader in the maritime transportation industry with a solid background in terminal operations and management," said Paul M. Tellier, chairman of the GCT board. "We are confident that his global experience and strategic focus will bring significant benefit to our organization."

Edwards was president and CEO of Ports America, the largest terminal operating and stevedoring company in the U.S., from 2007 to 2010.

Prior to that, he worked with the P&O Group for 17 years in progressively senior operations and management roles, including appointments in Rotterdam, London, Singapore and Dubai.
