The 9/11 Memorial Ride will have a special ceremony on Sunday morning at the Tsawwassen Mills southwest parking lot before proceeding to the Peace Arch border.

A 9/11 Memorial Ride that will originate from Tsawwassen Mills on Sunday, will return its usual conclusion with a ceremony at the Peace Arch border.

That wasn’t possible a year ago as the U.S. border was closed at the time to non-essential travel due to the pandemic. Now, there once again will be a joint ceremony with American first responders to conclude the day’s festivities.

The tribute ride was the idea of former Ladner resident Guy Morrell who was inspired to honour the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attack after visiting Ground Zero in New York City a year later and being part of a memorial procession.

“This past year has been filled with changes, growth, healing, and the return of a semblance of normalcy. One thing that we are happy to announce will be returning to normal is the 9/11 Memorial Ride, with the remembrance ceremony taking place at the Peace Arch Border once again,” said Morrell. “We have and always will continue to remember, and pay our respects to all those we lost on that day - along with those we've lost since & those who are still here and suffering from the effects of September 11th, 2001.

The public is invited to attend a special pre-ride ceremony that will take place around 9 a.m. in the southwest parking lot at Tsawwassen Mills before a procession of emergency vehicles and motorcycles will proceed to the Peace Arch border.
