Did you know that many of your Delta Police officers also live in this community, where they serve?
That’s just one reason behind the dedication that you see regularly from our officers. In addition to policing, our members are active volunteers. They donate time, money and effort to several charitable causes such as the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics, Cops for Cancer, and charitable events for fallen officers.
Policing in Delta has a proud tradition, dating back to 1888, when the first constable was appointed. Today, the Delta Police Association (DPA) represents approximately 200 Delta Police officers and is committed to serving, protecting, and promoting the interests of our members as they serve the citizens in our great community of Delta 24/7.
One of the objectives of the DPA is to attract and retain regular sworn police officers in the Delta Police Department, embracing all ranks up to and including Staff Sergeants.
By protecting and advancing the economic well-being, general welfare, and rights of our members as workers, we help maintain a just, impartial and efficient police force.
The COVID-19 pandemic has brought forward many challenges that workers throughout Canada have adapted to, and sought to overcome on a daily basis. We are no different. We work to promote, establish or participate in benefit trusts or other assurance plans that are primarily for the purpose of providing health, welfare, pension, and advancement of education, skills or other benefits to our workers.
As the DPA works to improve wages, hours of work, and conditions of employment for our members, we believe that by doing so, this will create a safer community and improve the quality of life for all Delta citizens.
On this Labour Day, we wish you a safe and healthy day. A day for rest, recreation, and relaxation. And we offer our thanks to all our frontline police officers and all other workers, who are not able to enjoy the day off.
