A 31-year-old Abbotsford man has been charged with second-degree murder in connection to a Feb. 4 homicide in North Delta.
Aaron Spencer Dutiaume, 31, of Abbotsford, remains in custody pending his court appearance.
Police believe this murder to be an isolated, targeted incident and is not connected to the ongoing Lower Mainland gang conflict.
“This violent crime created significant fear in a North Delta neighbourhood. We are pleased we can restore a sense of safety by announcing the arrest and charge of Mr. Dutiaume,” said Insp. Health Newton, officer in charge of the DPD Investigative Section.
On Feb. 4, at approximately 2:05 a.m., DPD officers responded to a shots fired call at a residence in the 11800 block of 92nd Ave. Upon arrival, officers located a male victim suffering from gunshot wounds. First responders performed lifesaving efforts, but the victim died due to his injuries. The victim was identified as Dana Gilbertson, age 54.
The DPD Major Crime Section assumed the conduct of this homicide investigation. Investigators gathered relevant evidence, and a suspect was arrested for this homicide and an unrelated outstanding warrant on Feb. 12. After a thorough investigation the DPD investigators submitted the evidence to Crown Counsel for charge approval.
DPD say they cannot provide any further comment as the matter is now before the courts.
