After originally being found clinging to a log boom in the Fraser River and then spending the next 14 months at the Delta Community Animal Shelter (DCAS), Connie has officially found her happily ever after home.
The chocolate-coloured mastiff-mix dog, rescued during the atmospheric river flooding in November 2021, has officially been adopted. According to DCAS manager Ryan Voutilainen, it’s taken a caring effort from many and, of course, a compassionate owner for Connie to start a new and exciting chapter of her life.
“Her new owner is everything we could have hoped for, for Connie. He is understanding of her needs and has been dedicated to her since day one. Despite the adjustment period of transitioning into a home for the first time (possibly ever), she has since settled, and life is looking up!,” said Voutilainen
“We are so thankful to everyone involved in making this adoption happen. From the trainers that worked with Connie, the staff who cared for her day in and day out, the people that shared her posts and stories and her wonderful adopter! Sometimes it takes a village, but it makes it all worth it in the end.”
In November, the DCAS staff held a “pity party” for Connie to celebrate her one year anniversary at the shelter.
Despite contacting other shelters, no one ever came forward to claim Connie after her arrival. She is estimated to be about two years-old.
