It has long marked the beginning of the Christmas season for many local residents.
The Ladner Business Association is holding its annual tree lighting event in Ladner Village on Friday, Dec. 2 at 7 p.m. at the corner of 48th Avenue and Delta Street.
As always, the tree lighting wouldn't be complete without a little entertainment.
The Ladner Gospel Assembly choir is returning once again this year with its decorated, hay-filled, flatbed truck to serenade the crowd with Christmas favourites.
Everyone is invited to sing along.
"We sing a variety of Christmas songs," said assembly member Marie Webber. "It's a great family night."
The choir has been taking part in the Christmas festivities for 35 years.
This year, Alistair Milne of The Suspenders will perform a solo.
To help keep everyone warm, the Ladner branch of the Royal Canadian Legion will have coffee and hot chocolate on hand.
After the tree lighting, which takes place at 7: 25 p.m., the choir will join the children's parade and make its way down to the government dock at the foot of Elliott Street to welcome the carol ships.
