A fourth seniors’ bus is coming to Delta.
The draft 2020 financial plan has a fourth bus planned for Delta later this year, said parks, recreation and culture director Ken Kuntz.
“This is a free service to Delta seniors 65 years-plus. It provides trips for medical appointments, shopping within Delta, recreational, social and cultural needs. The goal is minimize senior isolation and ensure that these folks can get out into the community,” he said.
Launched in 2013, the service now has three buses in operation.
The bus operates 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday to Friday.
There is one bus in North Delta and one in South Delta. The third bus starts its day in North Delta but it covers both communities.
Once the fourth bus arrives, there will be two dedicated for each community, noted Kuntz.
During 2019 in North Delta, there were 4,052 trips, and the bus had been in use for 233 days.
In South Delta during that same period, there were 4,213 trips, and in use 239 days.
They are equipped to hold 16 passengers, plus two wheelchairs.
Seniors must be able to embark and disembark the bus independently.
Seniors can call a centralized booking line at 604-597-4876 to book rides Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
