Book gets second chance

Tsawwassen marine author Peter Vassilopoulos has helped a late North Delta author's book see widespread publication.

Tsawwassen marine author Peter Vassilopoulos has helped a late North Delta author's book see widespread publication.

The History of the RCMP Marine Services by Kenneth John Haycock covers the vessels owned and operated by the RCMP's various marine services.

The book is heavily illustrated with photos in black and white and colour.

"A lot of photographs were recovered from archives all over the country," said Vassilopoulos.

The Mounties published it originally as a limited edition, using it for presentation purposes. Only 100 copies were printed, he explained.

Vassilopoulos, who also edited and did the production, graphics, design and layout, has now republished the book.

Haycock passed away in 2009 after a battle with cancer, Vassilopoulos noted.

Vassilopoulos also said a copy of the book was presented to Prince Charles during his recent visit to Canada.

The History of the RCMP Marine Services can be found at Albany Books in Tsawwassen and other bookstores.
