Another day, another scam.
Delta police are warning the public about another scam that has been circulating in Delta.
According to police, in this particular scam, the victim receives a phone call from a “courier company” stating that they had a package that required a signature.
“When the courier driver arrived, the victim was surprised to see a beautiful basket of flowers and a bottle of wine. Intrigued, they inquired who the sender was,” said Delta Police in a post on their Facebook page. “The delivery driver stated that he was just a driver, but that a card would be delivered later. The driver then informed the victim that because the gift contained alcohol, there was a delivery/verification charge - providing proof that an adult signed for the alcohol.
“When the victim offered to pay the delivery driver cash, they said that they could only accept credit or debit. The victim provided their debit card, and entered their pin into a mobile card machine. Days following, upwards of $4,000 was charged/withdrawn from their bank account. Once again, if it's too good to be true, it likely is.”
