The city says it will review the feedback to guide a playground design.

The City of Delta is gathering resident feedback on a plan to expand the playground outside the North Delta Recreation Centre.

The goals of the project are to increase capacity and enhance accessibility, according to the city.

Although the city still has to come up with a final design, the general plan includes doubling the play area's size, adding fencing, seating and shade trees, as well as include wheelchair-accessible play equipment that allows users to engage with various senses and physical capabilities on a safe and accessible surface.

The project is in partnership with the Reach Child and Youth Development Society, but the construction is subject to funding availability.

Meanwhile, the city recently issued a request for proposals to replace the existing playgrounds at Sunbury Park and 89A Avenue Park.

Noting both North Delta playgrounds have come to an end of their useful life, the city has a total budget of $205,000 for the Sunbury Park playground and $200,000 for the one at 89A Avenue Park.

The city plans to come back to the community with another round of community engagement to present the proposed playground design options, having a final design by the end of June 2024.

The new equipment is to foster inclusivity by incorporating accessible features.

Part of the Delta’s annual Playground Renewal Program, those projects are to be installed by this fall.
