New signage, branding, artwork and other enhancements are coming to the Ladner Harbour Marina.

Delta council this week approved a harbour regulation bylaw which includes updated moorage fees, while staff are to proceed with engagement with marina customers and the public on the completion of further enhancements such as local artwork installations and land optimization.

The marina is a dedicated small craft harbour facility, located at the end of McNeely’s Way.

A staff report notes new place-making features are proposed to recognize the unique identity of the harbour and further enhance the charm and appeal of the area, including a new street sign off River Road, updating the name from “Boat Basin” to the more prevalent “Marina” and a standard uniform for the Harbour Master that is recognizable to visitors.

The report also notes that place-making can also be achieved through artwork that is notably absent from the area.

Staff proposed to engage a local artist to complete new art installations for benches and the net shed, installations that would be unique to Ladner.

Ladner Harbour Marina is federally owned property under the Small Craft Harbours branch of the Department of Fisheries and Oceans.

Day-to-day management was transferred by way of lease to the City of Delta in 1998, and while duties including minor repairs, maintenance and operating the marina are the responsibility of the city, major repairs and annual inspections are the responsibility of Small Craft Harbours.

The current lease with the city is in place until April 30, 2038.
