The community recently lost another long-standing local business.

Jack's TV & Stereo in Tsawwassen closed earlier this month after almost a half century in business.

Owner Bill Learmont said a variety of factors contributed to the closure.

"Our store was based on customer service," he said, adding Jack's TV & Stereo always offered free delivery and set up.

However, with prices dropping it became too difficult to continue to offer that same level of service.

"It just became too hard to compete with the big guys," he said, adding that online shopping trends also played a part in the store's demise.

"We were there for a long time and were profitable for a long time," he said. "Times change."

Jack's TV & Stereo was started by Learmont's father, Jack, 47 years ago. Learmont took over in the early 1970s.

"I just want to thank my customers," he said. "I just want to thank them for all they've done."

Learmont said he will maintain the Jack's TV & Stereo website, www.jackstv.ca, and continue to answer any customer queries through the site.
