Tsawwassen could be getting a new sport complex facility at Grauer Park.
The project would be a $4.5 million, 36,000 -square foot joint-use facility with Southpointe Academy, which came forward to the City of Delta with a proposal.
Southpointe is proposing a covered sport dome that would see a partly synthetic turf field and partly a wood sport court.
Council this week agreed to send a draft proposal to the public for consultation and then have staff report back.
According to a recent staff report on Mayor George Harvie’s sport summit, which was a gathering of local sport user groups this spring, the proposal at Grauer Park would help address a lot of existing sport-use conflicts.
Details including whether the lacrosse box at the site could be impacted still have to be made public.
The report also notes there is a commitment from council to create more balance for more sport users in Delta.
Two years ago saw the grand opening of a new natural playground at Grauer Park, a joint project involving the city and the Tsawwassen Boundary Bay Lions Club.
That playground made use of an underused area in the park and cost $126,135, which was cost-shared between Delta and the Lions Club.
