In celebration of Alumni Relations’ 35th anniversary, the Douglas College Foundation and Alumni Relations have awarded 35 alumni who embody Douglas’ vision of graduating resilient global citizens with the Alumni35 Award. This award honours alumni who, through their career, life’s work or passion project, are using their skills and knowledge to adapt, innovate and lead in our ever-changing world.

The four alumni recognized from Delta are: Jaspal Kaur Sangha, Alex Sangha, Karunvir Samra and Kiran Niijar.

“Being a resilient global citizen means never forgetting your roots as an immigrant,” says Jaspal Kaur Sangha. “I try to give back to the best of my ability and I am proud to be a successful single mother who achieved post-secondary education at Douglas College.”

She was selected for this award because she embodies a resilient woman who emigrated from India to provide a better life for her family. She embraced the opportunity to further her education and is an inspiration for many Canadian immigrants.

The Alumni35 award recipients will each be awarded $1,000 that they can use to help further their career or passion project, donate to a Douglas College Faculty or program of their choice, or donate to a charity of their choice in the community.

“Our heartfelt thanks go out to all those who submitted nominations for this award, giving us the opportunity to recognize and support our alumni’s ongoing success,” says Theresa Blancaflor, Associate Director, Annual Giving and Alumni Relations. “We hope that our alumni see their path represented through the amazing Alumni35 stories.
