The Delta Fire Department is recruiting and looking for new members.

Delta Fire and Emergency Services is looking for a few good women and men during its 2023 recruitment.

But you have to be well on your way to thinking about becoming a firefighter before you submit an application.

Before applying, it’s required to get a Class 3 licence, National Fire Protection Association 1001 certification and an emergency medical responder licence.

Delta Fire Chief Guy McKintuck, said that the department is recruiting as normal, in order to fill spots left vacant by retirement. The department should need two, or up to five recruits, depending on who leaves or retires.

He added that people serious about a career usually have those qualifications before applying.

“We’re looking for people who have been thinking about this as a career choice for enough time that will allow them to be qualified to apply for one of these positions,” McKintuck said.

Having a Class 3 is a general requirement across B.C. for anyone wanting to apply to become a firefighter.

He added they’ve never had a shortage of people wanting to apply.

Aug. 8 is the deadline for applying.

The department employs more than 200 people at seven fire halls throughout the community.
