A Delta police officer was honoured last month for his work during the 2010 Winter Olympics.

S/Sgt. Steve Ramsden received an award for meritorious service at the 31st annual Police Honours Night at Government House in Victoria.

The Meritorious Service Award is given to police officers whose "exemplary performance enhances the image of police officers in British Columbia and who clearly demonstrate that they acted in a manner significantly beyond the standard normally expected."

Ramsden received the award for his outstanding contribution to ensuring a safe and secure 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

In all, 69 police officers from around the province received awards, including 22 for valorous service, 43 for meritorious service and four for outstanding service.

Ramsden is the 16th member for the Delta police department to receive the Meritorious Service Medal.
