Delta police together with other law enforcement personnel across the Lower Mainland are joining with Special Olympics BC in a smaller way this week.
June marks the 30th anniversary of the Special Olympics British Columbia Law Enforcement Torch Run. Normally during this week officers would be joining other law enforcement agencies across Metro Vancouver in running with Special Olympics athletes.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic that's not possible, but this week a few lucky officers got to join one of the Delta athletes for a short run
DPD Insp. Ciaran Feenan and Const. Jeremy Pearce joined with Delta athlete Cory for a socially-distanced run through Ladner.
During the Torch Run week, participants ran and walked as many times as they could, while maintaining physical distancing. Participants logged their km and fundraising totals on line, working together to reach the event’s fundraising target of $30,000 and look to cover a combined distance of 3,000 km.
Since 1980, Special Olympics BC has provided high-quality, year round sports programs for athletes around the province with the goal of providing individuals with intellectual disabilities the opportunities to enrich their lives and celebrate personal achievement through positive sport experiences.
