Delta opens up reception centres for those with no power

The City of Delta is opening up several reception centres on Friday, available to those who still remain without power.

The City of Delta is opening up the South Delta Recreation Centre in Tsawwassen as a reception centre for those affected by Thursday's powerful wind storm.

Both the South Delta Recreation Centre, located at 1720 – 56 Street and Kennedy Seniors’ Recreation Centre located at 11760 – 88 Avenue, will be open for those who need to warm up and enjoy a hot beverage. The Reception Centres will remain open throughout the day and conditions will be re-assessed Friday afternoon once further updates have been received from BC Hydro.

City of Delta staff continue to respond to calls regarding downed trees, debris and power lines throughout Delta. Engineering operations crews worked through the night clearing trees and debris, monitoring pump stations, and restoring access to services.

As of 6 p.m. Thursday night, Delta crews had responded to more than 140 calls.

Delta’s Extreme Weather Shelter will open again Friday night at Ladner United Church from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m.

If you see a downed power line, stay back at least 10 metres and call 911. Should you require non-emergency assistance for fallen branches or other city services after hours, call 604-946-4141.
